Accounting
Accounting for the business you run.
Sovereign Ledger is our accounting product for small businesses. Our focus is the everyday work of keeping the books, with control of the records treated as a design requirement.
Accounting and payroll for small businesses
We’re building Sovereign for small businesses that want a choice in where their software runs and control over their records. We’re designing Sovereign to run on your premises or with us, with full data downloads whenever you need them and APIs for connecting your other business systems.
Built around your choice
Both deployment options belong in the initial product plan. The choice of hosting should not mean giving up the ability to keep a full copy of your data.
The products
Ledger and Payroll have separate roles. Payroll is planned as a standalone product, so choosing it should not require adopting Ledger.
Accounting
Sovereign Ledger is our accounting product for small businesses. Our focus is the everyday work of keeping the books, with control of the records treated as a design requirement.
Standalone payroll
Sovereign Payroll is being developed as a standalone product. The aim is to let a business choose its payroll software separately from the system it uses for accounting.
Product direction
We’re treating deployment choice, complete data copies and integration as core requirements, not extras to add later.
We’re planning both options from the outset, so a business can choose the deployment that fits its operating environment.
The requirement is to let you download a complete copy of your data at any time. A collection of reports is not the same as having your records.
Sovereign should connect with the other systems a business relies on. APIs and integration belong in the core product design.
We’re considering access controls and network deployment alongside the accounting workflows, rather than leaving them until the end.
These are product requirements. Availability and technical details still need verification.
Technician mode
We’re planning a technician mode that suppresses financial balances during technical support. It is intended to help a technician work on the software without putting those figures on display.
Balance suppression is a product requirement, not a verified access-control boundary.
Our planned partner channel
We plan to deliver Sovereign through approved managed service providers (MSPs) and accounting partners. Our aim is to put technical support and accounting expertise alongside the software.

Talk to us about partneringWhy we’re building Sovereign
Choosing a tool to keep the books should not mean giving its provider the final say over your business information. We’re designing Sovereign with the owner’s control in mind.
A change of accountant or software should not strand a business’s history. Readable, portable records are one of our design goals.
Owners should have a clear say in who can work with their records. We’re designing toward customer-directed access, with the responsibilities of the business, its advisors and the software provider stated plainly.
These are product design goals, not a statement of available features.
